SpeedCoach® GPS - Model 2

$449.00

SpeedCoach GPS Model 2 is now only available with Training Pack.

Rowing's most popular performance monitor, the SpeedCoach GPS 2, offers athletes critical information about boat speed (split), stroke rate, distance, and time. Use by itself in GPS mode or connect to an impeller (impeller and wiring sold separately) for additional accuracy in moving water. The Training Pack features now come standard. Program any workout ahead of time, start and record pieces without letting go of the oar handle and upload the data wirelessly to a computer or mobile device. The SpeedCoach GPS with Training Pack supports the EmPower Oarlock and is the central component of NK’s connected rowing environment.

NOTE: The SpeedCoach GPS 2 is designed for rowing. Please see the SpeedCoach SUP 2 or SpeedCoach OC 2  if you are looking for a SpeedCoach for stand-up paddleboarding or outrigger canoeing.

SpeedCoach GPS 2 is

Impeller Compatible

The SpeedCoach GPS is compatible with our SpeedCoach Impeller (sold separately). Training with an impeller has been the gold standard for rowing for years, especially for teams that train on moving water. Impeller speed measures the movement of the boat relative to the water, while GPS speed measures the movement of the boat relative to the ground. This can be a powerful training tool and a great way to learn more about your paddling. To get started training with an impeller, you will need the SpeedCoach Impeller Wiring, Wireless Angle Bracket Mount, and SpeedCoach Impeller.

If you are interested, we wrote a blog post highlighting the differences between impeller speed versus GPS speed.

The SpeedCoach GPS 2 will say "model 2" on the left side above the letters "FC"; the SpeedCoach GPS 1 will not.

You DO need the Training Pack version of the SpeedCoach in order to download your data, but if you have the app, you can still do firmware updates with LiNK and the basic versio
  8. Finding the Boatmovers Finding the Boatmovers Until recently, the most accurate metric for on-the-water performance has been the 500-meter split. It makes sense: races are measured in time over distance, so why not measure practice pieces the same way? If the goal is to improve an athlete’s performance, a logical requirement is to be able to accurately measure that performance. The biggest problem with using splits to gauge improvement is that boat speed doesn’t just depend on the athlet
  9. "Working" My Core with the EmPower Oarlock By Alix James I've been working through the real-time measurements available with my EmPower Oarlock connected to my SpeedCoach GPS – exploring the relationships between my rowing stroke and what the numbers on the screen are telling me. I'm lucky enough to row with a coach on a somewhat regular basis as part of Vesper Boat Club's master's program, so I have a very good idea of the many, many ways I need to improve. It has been really interest
  10. Everything You Ever Wanted to Know about the SpeedCoach but Were too Afraid to Ask: Part I Everything You Ever Wanted to Know about the SpeedCoach but Were too Afraid to Ask: Part I No matter how much you know about rowing, it's easy to feel uneducated. It may have been ten days or ten years since you've figured out that "coxswain" is pronounced "cox sin," "gunwale" is pronounced "gunnel" and "weigh enough" means "stop," but there's still a whole world of terminology, measurements and equipment to understand.
  11. Length and Effective Length Are Not The Same Thing Sander Roosendaal, Czech masters rower and data guru, created a rowing analytics platform that incorporates data from many on-the-water and off-the-water devices, including the NK SpeedCoach and EmPower Oarlock. The free to use platform and Sander's insights into his own rowing data are available on the Rowsandall website.
  12. GPS vs. IMPELLER NK has now released the SpeedCoach GPS Model 2 that uses a 3 axis accelerometer & a 5 Hz GPS (Garmin & others are only 1 Hz). This now addresses the issue of slow updates of boat speed. The problem of moving current still remains: you are measuring the speed relative to land. The NK SpeedCoach overcomes this by being able to be switch to Impeller mode, therefore having your true speed relative to the moving water.
